Poetry Slam Eby Way
64What is a poetry slam?
My first attempt at a poetry slam.
This poem is my first attempt at a poetry slam. It should be performed and read out loud. What do you think?
All aboard; we’re taking a trip. Come fly with me; let your spirit soar. Onward to a mystical host: the rustic, majestic, Oregon coast.
Can you feel the sunlight slightly cooled by fresh ocean air? Endless whitecap waves roll in, crashing against huge, black rocks that pepper the shoreline. Topaz and turquoise waters swirl frosty foam up on the suede-colored beach, so alluring like cotton-candy at a local fair.
Take your shoes off. Walk bare-foot into the wet, cold, sinking sand at the ocean’s edge. Let go; laugh and jump at the roar and drone of the surf. Such power and sensation can send our hearts into palpitation.
Several hawks circle above our heads. They effortlessly glide through a baby-blue sky. Sea gulls waddle on the distant sands looking for tasty treasures. Pelicans dive-bomb into the undulating surf, a performance without measure.
Fellow travelers comb the beach with smiling faces. Others pause to pick up shells, stones, and Mother Nature souvenirs. Some beloved dogs run in a frenzy circle barking at the beckoning sea. A few ancient wind and sun-blasted drift-wood logs present us with convenient resting places.
Folks in black wetsuits dive into the surf in desperate search of waves to ride. Others are flying rainbow-colored kites that dip and tumble and sometimes crash on their side.
The ocean horizon soothes, hypnotizes, mesmerizes. Can you smell the seaweed, salt, and fish creatures? We could check out the tide-pools on the ancient, volcanic boulders: starfish, pink, blue, and orange hide there along with purple, spiky sea urchins and other surprises.
Unfortunately it’s time to return home. Yes, we must face daily challenges, setbacks, disappointments, frustrations, and even an occasional disaster. But, in our mind’s eye, we can always return to the powerful joy, and peace of the sea master.
All aboard; time again to let our spirit soar!

What new-to-me and unusual forms of out-loud-words on your videos! It appears to be a fun-and healing-therapeutic process, and one doesn't even have to know it as such! Great!
Really loved the descriptive phrases and beautiful scenery of your own poetic pictures too!
lovely hub, thanks for introducing me to poetry slams! :)
Votes up. This is very interesting. It is a great feeling of relief to go there in thought. It is very relaxing and it does work. Yes, I have never heard of poetry slams before, but this, you have something going here. This was good for the soul Coach.
Great hub. You made use of the senses in great desciptions. I never heard of a poetry slam. The words put you in a relaxed mood on a pleasant journey. I love the words peace and light. I think I need some peace and light. We all need peace and light. Thanks for sharing.
